Going deep

12/9/10 07:20 am - inkigirl - Ghetto Zombies

Sure, I sound like Liz Phair during her girlysounds period. I'm funny like Tina Fey. I guess that makes me fey-phair the ever gothy. This is the surprise I wanted to give you the entire week before Halloween. But, being the hedonistic slacke that I am, I, and my distributors, took my sweet ass time. So, here it is, a day late and a dollar short. I give you the first zombie to human love song. Alright, maybe not the first, but the indie-est. Hey, I'm like a eviler kinkier Kimya Dawson (Kimiya, if you're reading this, I'm not saying that you're not kinky or evil, just that I am, moreso than you.)

I give you, the internet, [Ghetto Zombie Lover].
I'm a lo-fi girl guaranteed to make bedroom rock.

Love and kisses,
Lola aka fey-phair

3/3/06 03:49 pm - lovableatheist - CKUT in danger

Broadcast vote
McGill students head to the polls to decide the future of CKUT

McGill’s campus-community radio station CKUT has always operated on a tight budget, and if the student body decides against it in an upcoming and much-delayed referendum, its administrators will find out what fiscal belt-tightening really means.

Between Friday, March 10, when advance polls open, and Wednesday, March 15, McGill students will be able to vote on whether they want to continue the university’s association with the self-declared progressive radio station. At issue is the $160,000 collected from the $4 fee each student pays per semester that constitute 40 per cent of the station’s budget, the same amount students have paid since CKUT was created in 1988. It may not sound like much of a fee, but the station is still vulnerable. Losing the vote would mean losing student funding and losing their space, as the building housing the station is owned by McGill.

A referendum deciding the station’s fate was slated for last fall, but was delayed over problems regarding the question on the ballot.

Well. tonight was my last show of the semester for our music specialty show. basically. it came to my attention tonight that our faculty advisor wasnt too happy with the way our show went this semester. this is the first time a live music show has been attempted at our station. and the majority of it is interviewing. its an hour show, so its a lot of time to fill. normally about 45 minutes of playing and interviewing and then we would have some sort of discussion during the last 15 minutes of the show about something going on in music.

well. i was curious how other stations handle these shows. what kind of music. is it live? how do you handle the actual interviewing? whats the format timewise of the show? are there other parts of and aspects to these kind of shows that arent interviewing or music? anything you can give me.

we really need to sell up and improve are show next semester because we are already getting threatened with getting cancelled. our station is a very heavy News and Sports station, so its hard to get anything new done with our music and programming, so keeping these kind of shows around has to occur. any help would be great.
